How Old To Be Us President

So, you want to be President of the United States. Good luck, kid. But first, you have to pass the age test.

The Constitution says you must be at least 35 years old. That’s it. No older limit. You can be 95 and running the free world.

Let’s be honest: 35 is weirdly young for the most powerful job on earth. At 35, you’re still figuring out how to assemble IKEA furniture without crying.

But here’s my unpopular opinion: the minimum age should be 50.

Think about it. At 35, you might still think “Netflix and chill” means actually watching Netflix. A 50-year-old knows better. They’ve already burned dinner twice and survived.

We need leaders who remember what a payphone is. Not ones who think a “super PAC” is a cool new energy drink.

Remember Theodore Roosevelt? He became president at 42. He was a bull moose. But did he have enough gray hair? No.

Compare that to Joe Biden, who took office at 78. He’s old enough to have seen the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Twice.

Now, 78 sounds ancient. But here’s the twist: he also has the most experience. He’s forgotten more about trade policy than I know about pizza toppings.

The real problem? 60 is the new 40. My dad is 62 and he can out-hike me. He also falls asleep at 8 PM. Perfect for those late-night crisis calls, right?

“The Oval Office needs a president who can nap during briefings and still wake up ready to sign bills. That’s a skill only age gives you.”

Let’s look at the young guys. John F. Kennedy was 43. He looked great in a suit. He also had the Bay of Pigs disaster. Youthful energy? Maybe. Youthful mistakes? Definitely.

Then there’s Barack Obama. He was 47 when elected. He had cool, youthful vibes. He also started going gray by year two.

So maybe the sweet spot is 55 to 65. Old enough to have patience. Young enough to stay awake through a State of the Union address.

But what about older candidates? Ronald Reagan was 69 when he started. He famously joked about not holding his age against him. He also survived an assassination attempt. You need thick skin—and maybe a good hip replacement.

Here’s my hot take: lower the minimum to 40, but add a mandatory nap break between 2 PM and 4 PM. That way, everyone wins.

Ageism is real, folks. We don’t want to discriminate against the young or the old. We just want a president who doesn’t ask, “What’s a TikTok?” and then try to dance in the Rose Garden.

Speaking of which, Donald Trump was 70 when elected. He had strong opinions about social media. He also had a very specific hair routine. That takes time to perfect.

The bottom line? Age is just a number. Unless you’re 34. Then you’re just a person with a dream and a very long wait.

So next time you hear someone say, “He’s too old,” remember: that person might have seen the moon landing. And they probably have better stories than you.

Me? I think the perfect president is 52 and a half. Old enough to laugh at “OK Boomer.” Young enough to still use emojis correctly.

But hey, that’s just my opinion. What do I know? I’m only 38. I’ve got three years to practice my IKEA skills.

Let’s end this with a challenge: if you’re over 40, run for office. If you’re under 35, just don’t start your campaign speech with “YOLO.”

Unless you promise to make naptime a federal holiday. Then I’m in.

So, to answer the big question: 35 is too young, 80 is fine if you have good knees, and 50 is probably the sweet spot—as long as you still let your mom cut your hair.

America, we need leaders who remember the Cold War, but also know how to stream a movie. Is that too much to ask?

Probably. But at least we can all agree: no one under 40 should be allowed to touch the nuclear codes without a note from their parents.

Now, go tell your grandpa he’s perfect for the job. Just make sure he’s wearing clean socks.
